Fawn is an incoming SSHRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the York University Mad Studies Hub, supervised by Dr. Marina Morrow. Parker’s postdoctoral project sits at the intersection of literary analysis and public health, using narrative storytelling to complicate and/or contradict practitioner-reported psychiatric treatment outcomes. Drawing on existing scholarship in the field of Mad Studies, the work will compare medical and psychiatric texts, case studies, and statistics to the lived realities of psychiatric service users, as communicated through the writing of fiction, memoir, diary, and letters.

Parker is completing a PhD at the University of New Brunswick where she has written a doctoral “trilogy” taking three approaches to narrativizing women’s experiences of psychiatric institutionalization.
